Luminance alternative for due diligence
Luminance describes itself as a “Contract Intelligence Platform”: specialized legal models are designed to understand contracts in context, for legal, procurement, finance and other departments. majiq is an AI due diligence platform from Switzerland, with the data room, analysis and report in one place. The main difference is the purpose: Luminance is built for working with contracts, majiq for due diligence when a company is bought or sold.
In short
- Luminance is aimed at companies, with solutions for legal, procurement, finance and other departments.
- Luminance does not list due diligence as a separate feature on its homepage or its repository page. Press releases from March 14, 2023 and October 21, 2024 describe due diligence use cases.
- majiq reviews legal, tax and financial matters in context and writes the due diligence report, with every finding backed by evidence from your documents.
- Luminance runs on AWS in the region the customer chooses. With majiq, the database and files are stored in Switzerland, and text recognition and AI analysis run in the EU.
What is Luminance?
On its homepage, Luminance calls itself a “Contract Intelligence Platform”: specialized legal models are designed to understand contracts in context and surface risks, obligations and commercial opportunities. The page divides the product into “Negotiate,” “Discover” and “Automate,” lists solutions for Legal, Procurement, Finance, Sales, Executive, Compliance and HR, and says “Trusted by 1,000+ enterprises worldwide.” According to its About page, Luminance was “Born out of the University of Cambridge.”
The contracting party is Luminance Technologies Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales with its registered address in Cambridge (Master Agreement, Proof of Value Terms). According to the privacy policy, the “Luminance Group” also includes Luminance, Inc. The contact page lists offices in London, Cambridge, New York, San Francisco, Dallas, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney.
The repository with the assistant “Lumi” reviews up to 10,000 contracts at once against the customer’s own playbooks to find deviations and risks. It gives source-backed answers, links related contracts and amendments automatically, and has a structured view, filters and reporting. Neither the homepage nor the repository page lists due diligence as a separate feature. None of the product updates from October 2026 is labeled as a due diligence feature either, among them “New Lumi” (beta) as a single conversational entry point and “External Sources” with cited research that includes LexisNexis Protégé.
Luminance describes due diligence features in older press releases. Its press release of October 21, 2024 on its use in an M&A due diligence lists the automatic extraction of key information from any number of contracts, the recognition of over 1,000 legal concepts such as clauses or governing law, and the automatic flagging of risks and important periods such as start and expiry dates, for documents “in any language.” Law firms also appear as customers in press releases: the press release of March 14, 2023 describes a UK law firm that uses Luminance for due diligence reviews and eDiscovery.
According to its Trust Center, Luminance runs on AWS, and customers choose the AWS region where their data is hosted (“Customers may choose which AWS Region their data is hosted in.”). Under the Master Agreement, the order form sets the location (“hosted location specified on the Product Order Form”), and backups go to a second AWS data center in the same region. In the list of subprocessors (as of October 1, 2026), the EU and the UK appear as hosting regions: additional processing by Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud follows the region (“EU/UK if the Product is hosted in the EU/UK; otherwise an international location”). For “Additional Generative Models,” the same list names OpenAI, L.L.C. with the USA as the processing location and the note “Customer inputs are sent to the provider.” A list of all available regions is not stated publicly, and neither is hosting in Switzerland.
What is majiq?
majiq is an AI due diligence platform from Switzerland. majiq reads every document in the data room, checks it in context and writes the due diligence report. The platform covers legal, tax and financial due diligence and cross-checks the areas: contracts against financial statements, financial statements against the plan. If they don’t match, majiq shows the contradiction as a finding. majiq moves every document into the table for its area, such as contracts, financials or HR, with the key details in columns. You can ask one question to the whole table, for example to all contracts.
Every finding names its source in your documents and is cross-checked by two AI reviewers. You accept or reject the AI’s suggested changes. Sellers, bidders and specialists work in the same data room, and each role only sees the documents you release. The database and files are stored in Switzerland, with hosting in Zürich. Text recognition and AI analysis run in the EU, and your documents don’t train any AI models, as set out in the contract. The sample report shows what a report looks like, and all features are listed under Features.
